Why did he ghost me after a great first date?
He called after I got home. He said he couldn’t wait to see me again, and he invited me to spend his birthday with him. It was a specific plan, not just a vague “let’s meet up sometime.” The first date had gone well by both our accounts, and the conversation had been easy.
After that, there was one more call. We exchanged a couple of messages. Nothing in those messages suggested anything had changed.
Then the contact just stopped.
No further explanation. The birthday invitation was never mentioned again.
I waited. I reread the exchange, searching for the moment when things might have shifted. I thought about sending a follow-up, but I didn’t.
It was confusing at first. Then came self-doubt, and a kind of compulsion to look for a cause in the thread. But there was nothing there.
Eventually, I stopped searching. The silence remained, and the unanswered birthday plan stayed where he’d left it.
