long-distance high-school relationship breakup
We met in high school and stayed together longer than anyone expected. Through senior year, through COVID, through all the months when we couldn't see each other because of lockdowns. We kept trying. We found ways.
Then graduation came and the map pulled us apart.
I went back to Spain. He went to college in Pennsylvania.
We said we'd make it work. And for a while, the relationship survived the distance.
But neither of us moved.
Our lives stayed where they were.
The relationship ended because the distance never did.
I don't think of that first relationship as a mistake or something that didn't count. It was real. It survived lockdown.
It just couldn't survive the Atlantic.
What I took from it
Our relationship was real and meaningful, even though it ended due to geography. It wasn't a failure; it was a testament to our commitment and love, which couldn't overcome the physical distance. Remembering it as a cherished experience honors what we shared.
