why is my friend ignoring me

My thumb hovered over the WhatsApp icon, the same way it had almost every day for the past two months. I sent her another message, just a couple of lines, and waited. The little checkmarks turned blue. She’d read it.

That was usually where things stopped.

We used to talk all the time. For a long stretch, there wasn’t a day that went by without us checking in, sharing everything that mattered and a lot that probably didn’t. The friendship meant a lot to both of us. The messages used to flow back and forth, and it felt like nothing would change that.

But two months ago, something shifted. Now, when I message her, most of the time there’s no reply. If she does respond, it’s only after five or six days. Sometimes, not at all.

I tried calling her a few times. Each time, the call just rang and rang. No answer.

Still, I kept sending a couple of messages almost every day. I told myself maybe she was just busy, that she’d get back to me when she could. But the days stretched out with nothing real coming back. When she finally did reply, it was only after several days, and only when it seemed to suit her.

I kept checking WhatsApp. Sometimes the message would be read right away, but there would be no response—just silence.

I’m honestly confused. I don’t know if I’m overthinking this or if it means the friendship is fading and she doesn’t want to continue. I keep wondering if I should stop messaging her and give her space, send one last message to ask if everything is okay, or just accept that things have changed.

There hasn’t been a real conversation between us in two months. I’m left with the routine: sending a couple of messages, watching for a reply, and not knowing what to expect next.

What I took from it

It's hard not knowing why this change happened, but it's possible she's busy, going through something personal, or reconsidering the friendship. Each possibility leaves room for care and understanding, even if the friendship is evolving.
